The Christmas holiday is upon us and St. John's has a number of special events planned from parties for children to a visit from St. Nicholas, to special Christmas services. Click on the photo to learn more about our activities.
December 6: PATCH Children's Holiday Party
St. John’s and St. James churches will co-host the PATCH Children’s Holiday Party from noon till 2 p.m. on Dec. 6. The place is St. James, the church at the corner of Bellevue Ave. and Valley Road in Upper Montclair.
December 7: Visit From St. Nicholas
St. John's will have a special visit from Saint Nicholas at the 10 a.m. family service. St. Nick will read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas and leave gifts for the children. All are welcome!
December 12: Holiday Concert
Our own Pat Cioffi will present a special holiday concert on Friday, December 12th, from 7:30-9:30. Pat teaches many gifted singers in the area who will share their talent with us and the community. The program will include holiday favorites and even a sing-a-long, so come join in the fun and catch some holiday spirit.
December 14: “The Meaning of the Eucharist” for All Children
Immediately after our 10:00 am Advent III service on December 14th the children will gather around the Altar with the Rev. Candace Sandfort to talk about the meaning of the Eucharist, while parents enjoy coffee hour. All of the children are encouraged to come, but for those who have never received Communion, this is a special opportunity to prepare to celebrate the Eucharist for the first time with the entire St. John’s community on Christmas.
December 21: Greening of the Church
Come join us for an hour of festive fellowship as we Green the Church after the 10:00 am service
December 24: Christmas Eve Family Service
Join us at 4 pm for a children's pageant, festive music, communion and a special sermon for children by the Rev. Candace Sandfort. Come see our church decorated in greens.
December 24: Christmas Eve Candlelight Service
A beautiful service with carols and communion. The church will be decorated in greens and lighted candles. Silent Night is sung at the end of the service with the lights dimmed and and each participant given a small candle to light and hold. The service begins at 9 pm.
December 25: Christmas Day Service
A traditional Christmas service with carols and communion, beginning at 10 am. (Children may bring their favorite gift to be blessed.)
