Children & Youth

Family Services
On the first Sunday of every month the 10 a.m. service features a Children's Homily. Children of all ages are invited to join our priest at the crossing for a short message crafted with them in mind.

Children's Corner
In the Narthex, we offer a Children’s Corner with quiet, age-appropriate materials such as books, coloring supplies, and simple activities to help children engage during worship.

Acolytes & Readers
Children and youth are invited to take active roles in worship as acolytes and readers. These ministries offer meaningful ways to serve, build confidence, and take part in the leadership of the liturgy.

Here at St. John’s, we believe children are born with an innate sense of connection to the divine. We strive to welcome children and youth as full members of our community, supporting them as they grow in faith at every stage of development. Alongside programs designed to meet children where they are, we also offer opportunities for all ages to come together—through shared activities, worship, service, and community events—so that children, youth, and adults can learn from and alongside one another in faith.

In Worship

Youth Group
The Ecumenical Youth Ministry Project is a partnership between St. John’s Episcopal Church, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Grace Presbyterian Church, and Glen Ridge Congregational Church, bringing together students in grades 6–12 for weekly gatherings focused on spiritual growth, fellowship, and service.

The program provides a welcoming and engaging space for youth to explore their faith, build lasting friendships, and live out God’s love through service and community involvement. Meetings rotate among the four partner churches, and on the first Sunday of each month, students serve at Toni’s Kitchen as part of the group’s commitment to putting faith into action.

Faith Formation

Sunday School
Sunday School meets on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, during the 10 a.m. service in the Parish Hall. While their parents are participating in the Liturgy of the Word, elementary school aged-children are learning about the Bible and basic Christian teachings through fun and interactive lessons. Children rejoin their family to receive the Holy Eucharist.

Sunday School goes on hiatus for the summer (June-August).
